Every departure has a story

Not all the stories of the abandonments from the Tour make it into the mainstream media. But each one seems to be difficult for the rider in question. Davis Phinney writes of the "Pain of quitting the Tour" of riders such as South African Robbie Hunter and CSC member Jens Voigt.
"So we'll miss the riders that as always fall by the wayside through this 2005 Tour de France but they've had an impact, they've played a part and we applaud their efforts, first to last."

Nancy, great site. Love your commentary and the wonderful stories that don't always make the front page. The sport looks so easy on TV. Thanks for reminding everyone how brutal this race is on the body and mind.
