Noval's crash

Benjamin Noval of the Discovery Channel team crashed in the final descent with 4.8 miles to go, apparently through the rear window of the Buoyges Telecom team car. He was taken to the hospital for X-rays and stitches on cuts on his chin and right arm.

He's at least the second rider of this Tour to collide with the rear window of a team car. On TV today we saw some pretty crazy driving by team cars, but also a great deal of up-close drafting by the cyclists behind any available car. I can't seem to find official listings of penalties imposed on the riders or team cars online - perhaps one of my readers can find that for me? It would be interesting to see.

There is much doubt whether either Benjamin Noval or Andreas Klöden (who fractured his coccyx in a fall) will be able to start in the morning. Noval made it to July 14th last year. Klöden withdrew on July 20 in 2005 after attempting to ride in a cast.
