A different kind of Lanterne Rouge

At the 32nd Marine Corps Marathon tomorrow, the last official finisher will be presented the "Paul the Penguin Award", acknowledging the hard work and dedication required from every marathon finisher. The award was started in 2006 by Major Megan McClung at the MCM satellite race at the Al Asad air base in the Al Anbar province of Iraq. Since she was killed in action in Iraq, the tradition has been carried forward by her parents.

Comments:
Major Megan McClung is missed by the military public affairs community. She was also honored by a charity run in September.

Thank you for those links. I saw her name several times while running the Marine Corps Marathon yesterday. She is remembered.
